Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan has praised Blink-182’s Travis Barker as the most influential drummer of the past three decades. Barker recently appeared on Corgan’s podcast, The Magnificent Others, where the two discussed drumming, musical backgrounds, and Barker’s recovery from a near-fatal 2008 plane crash. “I think you are probably the most influential drummer of the last 30 years,” Corgan told his guest. Barker credited his style to a wide range of influences, including jazz drummer Buddy Rich, Tommy Lee, Jimmy Chamberlin, and Dennis Chambers — and humorously named Animal from the Muppets as his biggest childhood influence.
