Political newcomer Republican David Rice won a seat on the Butler Township Commissioners last week.
He is now preparing for his first term in office and insisting on transparency.
“I know transparency may sound like a generic thing, but just in my experience and my involvement in going to township meetings over the past year, I know there’s an opportunity for that to be better,” Rice said.
Rice said that he would want to broadcast or stream future budget meetings as they had done so in the past through Armstrong Cable.
There is also the money that will come from the sale of the Butler Area Sewer Authority. Rice attended his first township budget meeting last week and his biggest take away is he wants to help protect consumers.
“I personally believe the rates are inevitably going to go up pretty significantly after this transaction,” Rice said. “I don’t think all that cost should be transferred over to the rate-payer.”
Rates from the BASA sale will be frozen for the first year after the sale is final.
Rice will take officially take office in January.
