Late last week a bill was signed into law by Governor Josh Shapiro that will now require any new development being proposed to have an adequate water supply before being approved.
Previous state law of the Pennsylvania Municipalities Planning Code, only required evidence of adequate water service available for the development.
The new law has simply required that the evidence must be presented before final subdivision or land development approval.
Current accepted evidence remains available to be used but according to the bill’s memo, this will close a procedural gap and promote “responsible growth, protects public health, and ensures reliable water infrastructure is secured before final plats are approved.”
The bill passed though Harrisburg without a single vote against it.
