Penn Township is abandoning new ordinances that would have allowed for property owners to be fined for unsafe structures or items deemed rubbish.
At their meeting Tuesday, supervisors approved a motion to delete and discontinue further discussion and action on the “Unsafe Structure” and “Junk and Rubbish” ordinances.
Around 100 residents attended with the majority applauding the decision to abandon the proposals. A couple of individuals spoke during the public comment portion of the meeting to express distrust regarding future actions of the supervisors.
Last month, over 200 people packed into Penn Township’s meeting to voice concern about moving forward with the proposed ordinances as written. After receiving a petition and hearing from around 20 residents, supervisors decided to table the ordinances until this month.
