Governor Josh Shapiro has once again sued the Trump Administration over funds allocated by Congress that are now being canceled.
The USDA canceled a $13 million agreement with Pennsylvania for funding for the Local Food Purchasing Assistance Program, which funds 14 food banks across the Commonwealth with locally grown fresh food.
The Shapiro Administration met with USDA officials and filed an appeal with the USDA before filing the suit.
The USDA claims that funding for the program was going unused, however officials with the state say they would spend the money and be reimbursed.
In Governor Shapiro’s 2025-26 budget he has called for an additional $4 million each for the Pennsylvania Agricultural Surplus System (PASS) and the State Food Purchase Program (SFPP). To help fight food insecurity in the Commonwealth.
