Spring turkey season kicks off this weekend with the annual youth mentored spring turkey hunt.
Hunting hours for the junior event begin a half hour before sunrise on Saturday and end at noon. All participants under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.
Hunters are reminded that only bearded birds may be harvested and there is no requirement to wear orange although it is recommended.
Spring Gobbler Season for all hunters begins next Saturday, May 3rd through the 17th until noon and then the 18th through the 31st until sunset. Last spring over 39,000 turkeys were harvested, beating the previous three year average by nearly 5,000.
Harvests must be reported within 10 days. Any bird that looks sick should not be harvested but should be reported to the Game Commission.
