A woman from Butler is accused of trying to set her house on fire with her two children inside.
The incident happened Saturday around 4:45 p.m. when Butler City Police responded to a home in 300 block of North Chestnut Street after the 911 center received a call about a mother trying to set her home on fire.
Police arrived and broke into the home and immediately saw smoke. They then heard a voice screaming for help from the attic. When they got into the room, police found 36-year-old Tanya Richter barricading herself in the attic and two young children in the corner, that were crying and screaming.
While taking Richter into custody, police say she continuously kicked and bit them until they got her in the back of the police car.
Through an investigation, police found that Richter kicked one son out of the home and then soon began to light various things on fire around the house.
Richter is facing numerous charges, including eight counts of felony one aggravated assault and arson.
Richter is currently in the Butler County Prison on $250,000 bail.
