The Pennsylvania Senate is approving a bill that offers tax breaks in multiple areas.
The bill cuts taxes on electric bills by eliminating the gross receipts tax. There would also be a sales tax holiday on school supplies purchased during the first two weeks of August.
The state’s Educational Improvement Tax Credit will receive an additional $25 million under the bill.
“Affordability remains a concern for people in every community and addressing that challenge head‑on is essential to strengthening the economic stability and well‑being of our residents,” Sen. Joe Pittman said in a statement. “With passage of this legislation, we are supporting families, empowering parents, and taking a significant step forward to help ease the financial pressures that so many households are facing.”
The bill now moves to the State House for consideration.
