A local community is marking the nation’s 250th birthday with a special two-day event.
The Borough of Mars has expended their traditional Independence Day festivities starting tomorrow.
Visitors Friday morning and early afternoon will be able to take a train ride and explore the train station museum before a series of dedications and sports events takes place at Marburger Field at 5 p.m.
Following a youth punt, pass, and kick contest and community softball game for all ages, Mars will host a cultural dance presentation by the Council of Three Rivers American Indian Center at 8 p.m.
The evening will conclude with a family movie night screening of “The Sandlot”.
Events will continue on Saturday with a flagpole dedication at 11 a.m. a downtown vendor market from 2 to 6 p.m. a parade at 5:30 p.m. and a community picnic at 6:30. Fireworks will take place around 9 p.m.
